After tonight, I am overwhelmed with ALL the possibilities. I am really liking the Skyward tests--sharing with other teachers is a big bonus. However I am not going to push this with my administration because my students and parents have been inundated with how to use Successnet and UTips. As for AIMSweb, I have been using this for several years now, and I have been able to the data to help make informed decisions about my students. I have used progress monitoring for students to track progress of my tier 2 students. I have yet to do this for my current class, but I need to do this soon to help track progress, especially for a couple of students who may need more intense intervention.
After attending one day of the RTI conference, I wanted to just express how important it is for EVERY student to be engaged and to respond. I am so glad I have had this course because I have some new tools at my fingertips to help maintain student engagement. Thanks to my great teachers and for Canyons for providing this training! Oh, to have more time and computers in my classroom! 1) Do you think that ePortfolios are a good way to assess student learning?
I do think ePortfolios are a great way to assess student learning. Plus I think ePortfolios motivate students to want to do their best and showcase their learning. Being able to assess students' growth over time helps me as a teacher make decisions for future lessons as well as celebrate the learning that has already taken place. 2) In what ways could you use ePortfolios in your classroom? I already use a writing portfolio of sorts in my class. Throughout the year, students put writing projects in their "All About Me" books. By the end of the year, students, teachers, parents can look through this book and see how students evolve through the year. As for ePortfolios, I would like to incorporate some of the Reading Streets research projects using technology into an ePortfolio. I already have a class website and I am thinking I should set up a web page for each student to use to showcase their projects. Also for them to use Voice Thread for recording their voices when reading their writing. 3) Do you think the pro’s of using ePortfolios outweigh the con’s? The biggest con of using ePortfolios is having the access to the technology and getting everything set up for students. Everything takes time to teach to students, but I think it would be worth the time to get students motivated, to have a place where parents can see what students are learning in class and see the growth of their child. canyons.utips.org/# The best way to access utips is through Canyons. Students will need to set up a new account. You will give them the access code. Students will need to have their student number. Students will need to have an access code to get added to my class. This is where students will see what class, course, or test. One user name, one password. Teacher has control how long student has access to test.

I so want to use more of them. I just wish I had more time and energy to create the assessments. For this year, I am hoping to focus on math and how to utilize better assessment tools.
