Balanced assessment system--both summative and formative are integral part of info gathering. Don't depend on one more heavily.
Summative--the test--given periodically to provide a particular point in time--what know/don't know
Formative--part of instructional process--observations, reviews, ongoing. Adjust teacher teaching methods--think of it as "practice". Don't hold students accountable in "grade book" fashion for skills and concepts they have just been introduced to or are learning. What are the next steps in teaching? Student involvement--engage students in assessing their own learning. Give descriptive feedback. Demonstration, experiments are ways to use.
Formative evaluation is present in each stage of ADDIE process.
Formative--anedcotal records, quizzes/essays, diagnostic tests, lab reports
Summative Assessments--tests, CRTS, CFAs--provide opportunities to give feed back to student--a judgement of student competency--have they mastered specific competencies and identify weaknesses--district benchmark, end-of unit and chapter tests--part of grading process
- Create rubric for prior activity--I used Rubistar to create rubric for Day 1 math journal.
- ADDIE Article.pdf
At the end of the project you will be required to use a rubric to submit a short peer review in which you rank the work done on class members’ thematic units. These rankings, including one you give yourself, will be added to your individual grade for the course. May use graphics (post what you did) i.e., surveys, brainstorm, Look at survey and this is what I did for task analysis. SEE evidence. DID all these things and this is how I used it. Did what was required and this is what I did. How was it useful...where will I go with this? The highlights and how/what was learned. What was the project all about.
ADDIE Final Presentation Rubric--8-10 minutes long. Talk about each step of ADDIE model. Need to communicate effectively to class, so they can evaluate (briefly) so they can evaluate you.
