Basic Elements--ADDIE
Analysis
Design
Development
Implementation
Evaluation-provides--reflection/reconsideration
Essential Deliverables
1. design plan
2. lesson plan
Instructional Systems Development (ISD) has been around for quite some time--just not in the format that we are currently seeing. Many people have contributed to the development of ISD. 1st there was Skinner, the father of behaviorism. His contribution is the need for practice with feedback. Then there was Benjamin Bloom--yep, Bloom's taxonomy is important to ISD. For learning to occur, Bloom had different levels or a continuum to mastery--remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. This sequencing of learning is a fundamental building block. Robert Mager provided the groundwork for the criterion reference approach to objectives and evaluation. Robert Glaser is another influential person. His system of instruction included:
1. Instructional goals 2. Entering behavior 3. Instructional Procedures 4. Performance Assessment. Robert Gagne's 9 events of instruction broke courses into discrete learning events and building instruction after analyzing each element. Dr. J. Marvin Cook ushered in ISD at the college level and showed us that ISD can be used with many different populations
ISD Practices & Principles
The process
* never changes
* has no opinions
* gathers data to make decisions
*has no bias to a specific delivery system or technology
* identifies problems
